The Sylvian Experiments or Kyofu

Just watched this and wanted to write a little about it. It was written and directed by Hiroshi Takahashi, screen writer of all the Ringu movies and several others. It is definitely a nice departure from the old j-horror genre. It is a bit of a return to the Japanese horror of the 80's and early 90's. I hate to make an obvious comparison but Baptism of Blood comes to mind due to the fact that both involve brain surgery. So, just to give you a quick run down before I post the trailer it's about a family, 2 young girls with 2 brain surgeons for parents. The parents get ahold of what appears to be some sort of WWII film showing doctors experimenting a specific section of the brain. The "Sylvian" are of the frontal lobe produces hallucinations when electrical stimulation is induced. Well that is the bare bones of the plot, I will just say it does stay weird from beginning to end. That is one of the main reasons I became obsessed with Japanese films in the fist place is that they do weird better than almost anyone else. Enjoy the trailer and try to see the film if this and the trailer intrigue you. Nite , Janet
